YORÙBÁ L’ÈDÈ

Our roots. Our future.

Preserving language. Celebrating culture. Building belonging.

Who we are

Yorùbá L’Èdè is a community-focused organisation dedicated to promoting and preserving Yorùbá language, African culture, heritage and identity, particularly among children, young people and families living in the diaspora.

Our work creates opportunities for children and adults to learn their language, understand their heritage and develop a strong sense of identity, confidence and belonging. Based in Hull, UK, our vision reaches Yorùbá and African communities across the wider diaspora.

OUR VISION

Proud of who we are.

To create a generation that is confident in its identity, connected to its heritage and proud of its language and culture.

OUR MISSION

Keeping culture alive.

To preserve and promote Yorùbá language and African cultural heritage through education, storytelling, dance, music, drama, community events and meaningful engagement with children, families, schools and the wider community.

Why it matters

Language connects families to their stories, values and ways of seeing the world. We create opportunities to use it, celebrate it and pass it on.

What we work towards

  • Accessible and enjoyable Yorùbá learning.
  • Creative opportunities to explore African heritage.
  • Confidence, identity and belonging for children and families.
  • Connections between schools, communities and the diaspora.
